Welcome Guest,
Pardon our ads; they're necessary to keep this lovely site running. Thank you for your understanding! Many sites boast a wonderful memberbase, but here at Yavania we pride ourselves on our community. We work hard to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making sure every member and guest is greeted and included in the fun, both OC and IC. Our staff is active, friendly, and always available. Each season we have a lot of fun OC activities that give our players fun/generous rewards, such as raffles, word searches, and crosswords. IC we have many festivals and site-wide events. Check out our Overview Guide and Character Creation (listed to the right) to see what we offer! You can make a vast spectrum of creatures, including but not limited to wolves, tigers, panda bears, leopards, African wild dogs, clouded leopards, ball pythons, and eagles! If the magic system seems overwhelming, don't worry. You do not have to build a character with magic. If you want to, however, we're available to help! Just drop into cbox. ♥

Character Creation

Character Creation

Below is a guide to help you create an acceptable character on Yavania. Make sure to read it thoroughly so that you can get accepted and begin roleplaying as soon as possible! Please note that WIP account creation is no longer allowed per an announcement here. If you've created a character account and want to assure staff see it soon, feel free to post in the Application Review forum with an OC account!

NEW MEMBER BONUS

If you are new to Yavania or are returning from a 6 month+ absence, you are eligible for the New Member Bonus! This means that you may use up to 200 AP to customize your first character on site. To see what items this entails, check the Points & Buyables Page. For example, you might choose to use it to buy two levels of elemental magic, two 100 AP unique powers, or one 200 AP unique power. You could choose to give your character a feat or two. Just remember that your limit on spending is 200 AP total. If you do not use them during Character Creation (before your account is accepted), then it is assumed you have forgone this bonus. Please make sure to add that you are using your New Member Bonus to your account!

USERNAME

This section of the application is the first name of your character. It is not your OC name. Try using babynames.com or parents.com for ideas, if you need help.

BIRTH SEASON

Use the following chart to help you determine your character's birth season, depending on the age you choose.

year interval
0.25 interval
0.5 interval
0.75 interval
current season previous season opposite season next season

PERSONALITY

This section in the application requires 7+ sentences, however there are a lot of things you can talk about here. They include, but are not limited to: how does he/she behave when threatened? When insulted? Does he/she think violence is justified? If so, when? What common rules of etiquette does he/she agree or disagree with? What trait would he/she refuse to have in a friend or romantic partner? What does your character like to keep hidden about themselves? What are their religious views? What has he/she done that they regret? How far would he/she go to realize their dreams or ambitions? How do they feel about their family? What trait/flaw do they have that others might find the most annoying? At what point would they reevaluate their own personal beliefs? Are they always honest or do they believe lying is okay?

PICK A SPECIES

Here at Yavania, we offer an extensive list of free-to-play species that you can choose from. Larger animals have been resized to make the site more balanced.

So, just what creatures are free to play?

  • All those listed in the tables below.
  • Mammal species that are 60 pounds or less on average and are no more than 30 inches long or tall. This restriction excludes the tail.
  • Bird, reptile, amphibian, and fish species that are 60 pounds or less on average and are no more than 30 inches long or tall.
  • Snakes are a special case. Non-venomous snakes that are 72 inches or less on average are free, so long as they weigh less than 15 pounds on average. To be considered free to play, venomous snakes must be 30 inches or less on average.
Examples of Other free-to-play species include dholes (Indian hunting dogs), clouded leopards, sand cats, mongooses, lynx, raccoon dogs, ball pythons, etc. You MUST include what species your animal is if you choose an 'Other.' Failure to do so will delay the acceptance of your application. Would you like some examples of other Medium Creatures? See HERE. For examples of Small Creatures, see HERE.

Below are the sizes that Yavania allows for each species listed in alphabetical order. Keep in mind, these are adult heights and weights: children will be smaller. To calculate a child's height/weight, please see the Growth & Development page. Additionally, please be aware that all heights are shoulder heights unless stated otherwise.

Limited Time creatures are large creatures (which normally cost 400 AP) that aren't traditionally Free-to-Play, but they are for a short time. As long as they are listed on this page, you are not required to purchase a large creature to play them.

APPEARANCE

This section in the application requires 7+ sentences. We offer quite a few free options for character customization! This includes:
  • partial/complete melanism
  • partial/complete albinism
  • curled tail (canine only)
  • floppy ears (canine only)
  • up to 4 eye colors total
  • lack of fur
  • shorter fur
  • shorter/missing tail (possible IC consequences)
Please keep the following in mind:

Body Types
Overall, there are three body types: slender, average, and bulky. Each has its own benefits and setbacks. Slender creatures are on the smaller side of the scale, making them more agile than the other body types and faster than others of their own species. Average creatures are mediocre in speed, strength, and stamina. Bulky creatures are on the larger side of the scale, making them stronger than other body types with slower reaction time. If you need help with determining your character's build, please see this page for aid. The following is the general pros and cons of each build.

BUILD
Speed
Agility
Stamina
Strength
Slender
better than others of their species
better than all other body builds
better than bulky only
weakest of the builds
Average
slower than others of their species
less agile than slender but more agile than bulky
better than all other body builds
stronger than slender builds
Bulky
slowest of their species
least agile of the builds; quick maneuvers are not for them
worst stamina of the builds
better than all other body builds

The Fur
We allow quite a bit of creativity in this field. For wolves, any unedited picture you can find is fine to make on Yavania. This means (for Grey Wolves) that black wolves, grey, timber wolves, white wolves, and russet wolves are all fine. For foxes, the default coloration of any species is fine. Additionally, partial or complete albinism or melanism is also available free of cost. However, please choose just one or the other: you cannot have both albinism and melanism. If you are making the coat of the animal lighter than normal, that is albinism. If you are making it darker that is melanism.

Albinism can be used to make the coat entirely white, to dull the colors of the coat, or to even make light shades such as tan and gold. White tigers and white lions require partial or complete albinism.

Melanism can be used to make the coat entirely black, to darken certain areas, or to darken the coat with dark greys or dark browns. A few examples of full melanism would be an all black tiger or a black lion. Partial melanism would be a grey tiger or a grey leopard.

We no longer allow solid shape markings for free, such as hearts, stars, etc.

The Eyes
Eyes can be any color except black and white, unless the creature is visually impaired. You can have a total of up to four eye colors. Disfigured pupils are only allowed if the character is blind.

The Mane
For lions (and other creatures that you buy manes for via longer fur), their mane begins growing at 1 year of age and finishes at 2 years of age. We are aware that this is different from real life and is due to their shortened lifespans. Manes and tail tips can be any natural shade of color (blond to reddish-brown to black); albinism and melanism can make them various shades as well.

Stock Questions
For grey wolves, dingo and dog stock can be used, allowing them to have floppy ears and curled tails if you so desire, but the breed should be wolf-like. This is also possible with some cases of red wolves, so long as albinism or melanism can explain the red wolf's look; just remember that red wolves have shorter fur. Dog stock is not possible for Ethiopian wolves or African golden wolves in any capacity, nor is it alright for other canines. Please remember, however, that humans do not exist in the Yavania timeline and thus these are wolves, not dogs, no matter the stock you use.

Pre-approved dog breeds that can pass as wolves: Alaskan Malamute, Canadian Eskimo Dog, Czechoslovakian Wolf Dog, German Shepherd, Dutch Shepherd, King Shepherd, Belgian Malinois/Belgium Shepherd, Pakistani Shepherd Dog, Siberian/Alaskan Husky, Kugsha, Samoyed, Tamaskan, Northern Inuit Dog, Utonagan, Saarloos Wolfdog, Dingo, Native American Indian Dog, and the Kunming Dog.

Snow leopard stock is not acceptable to be used for leopards affected by albinism. Please do not use snow leopard stock for them as they are they're own species. Jaguars should not be used for a leopard, as they are a separate species on Yavania.

HISTORY/BACKGROUND

This section (Family & History) is completely optional, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the only way your character can already have family in Yavania is if that family exists IC already on site. We do not allow NPC families. Secondly, your character's first post in Yavania will be their first time in Yavania. This means they cannot have been there before nor could they be born there unless it happens IC in a thread.

Does this mean your character cannot know of the Avatars or Yavania's magic? No. Because Yavania has been around for a long time IC (3+ years) and characters have been coming in and out steadily, rumors could have reached them. Your character can know the type of elements, the default level of the elements (but they will not have experience with it), names of the Avatars and how Mother Earth created life, and general concepts of what the Avatars do and their associated elements. If your character knows any of these things, it should be mentioned in this section to combat accusations of metagaming later.

MAGIC

Interested in your character having magic? Every character has the opportunity to choose two elements and receive their default level for free. See HERE for more information on the elements. Additionally, if you want your character to have a free (level 0) unique power, see HERE.

FLAWS

Characters are far from perfect, and that's why we offer official official Flaws! Taking a Flaw will can add a little 'flavor' to your characters. See the list of Flaws HERE. These are by no means the only handicaps available for characters on site, but they are the only official Flaws.

LANGUAGE

Your character can know a total of three languages. So if they know English (aka common), they can know two other languages. These languages must be specified upon creation.

BUYABLES

We offer buy-ables for appearance, to customize your character even more! That can be found HERE. Some buy-ables that change appearance, such as longer fur, horns, or another tail, will grow slowly on characters that are already on site, likely over an IC month (2 oc weeks). Other buy-ables, such as scales and feathers, can appear overnight. If you purchase a buy-able before bringing a character on site, they will come in with it. Currently, we offer the following buyable traits:
  • longer fur
  • partial scales
  • partial feathers
  • antlers/horns
  • distinct fur markings (heart, skull, etc)
  • longer tail
  • extra tails
  • longer canines
  • longer ears
  • tusks
  • webbed toes
  • porcupine quills
  • jewelry
  • wings (a unique spell)

ADOPTION

I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED. NOW WHAT?

Yavania is very detailed, and it can be overwhelming. Once you get accepted, here's a few steps to help!
  1. Familiarize yourself with the RULES, if you haven't already.

  2. Did you decide you want your character to have elements? To request elements, see HERE.

  3. Stop into C-box and say hello! It's located on the sidebar to your left. We love new roleplayers, and we can't wait to help you feel engaged and included in Yavania, both IC and OC! If you're shy, that's fine. Stop in when you want. <3

  4. Start roleplaying! To post as your character, post in one of the IC forums. Each area (Northern Lands, Southern Lands, etc) has different territories within them. Be careful not to post in a claimed land unless you say your character is on the border. Walking into a claimed territory is trespassing, the equivalent of walking into a stranger's home. It can be dangerous.
